Sustainable Attributes

Overview

Sustainable attributes are specific characteristics or qualities of a product, or process in facilities that indicate its level of environmental, social, and economic sustainability.  In simpler terms, any stage/process/activity associated with the product can be an attribute. For example, cut & sew, trees, donations made etc. These sustainable attributes can be associated to a product, a part (part of the product such as fabric), or order (entire e-commerce order coming in from the store). For example, if trees planted is a sustainable attribute associated with a product, this indicates how many trees are planted per product sold.

Sustainable attribute list screen

The sustainable attribute list screen contains all the attributes added to the system

  • Level: Sustainable attributes can be applied across product, part and order levels. This implies that the sustainable attribute can be defined on either the whole product, part of the product (blends) or entire order coming in from ecommerce stores
  • Impact metric: The applicable metrics that define each sustainable attributes quantitatively. This includes the metric name along with its impact (savings) and footprint (actual) value. The impact savings denote the reduction or conservation achieved by opting for sustainable alternatives, while the footprint actual value represents the actual measurable impact. For instance, when using organic cotton as a sustainable attribute, the emission metric indicates a reduced emission of 5 kWh compared to conventional cotton. Thus, the savings from using organic cotton amount to 5 kWh. Meanwhile, the footprint actual value would be the total emissions generated, for example, 20 kWh.

Adding a sustainable attribute:

  • Adding sustainable attribute requires basic attribute information such as name, level, measurement quantity and unit of measure.

Note: Part level attributes have to always be attached to a product level attribute.

  • It also requires metric information such as impact metrics, impact/ savings value, footprint/actual value with units.
  • Attributes can be assigned to an existing attribute profile of the same level while creating the attribute itself. You can enter the default value of this attribute while assigning it to a profile. The default value would be the quantitative value associated with the sustainable attribute on a per product basis. For example, if trees is the sustainable attribute, then the value could be 10 trees per product sold.

Other actions:

  • Edit: Allows you to edit the associated information with the sustainable attribute
  • Add a part level attribute: This option exists for product level attributes. Part level attributes can be added directly to the product attribute.
  • Delete: Attributes which are already configured to a product cannot be deleted

Attribute profile

Attributes of the same level can be grouped together to form an attribute profile. This attribute profile can be attached to a product. Then, all the attributes that fall under the attribute profile will be attached to a product along with its related information.

Add an attribute profile:

Adding an attribute profile requires profile information such as:

  • The profile name
  • The level the profile corresponds to - part, product or order

Note: Part-level profiles can only be configured if they all belong to the same product attribute

  • All the attributes that are a part of this profile along with their default values.

Other actions:

  • Edit: Edit the information associated with the attribute profile
  • Delete: Attribute profiled cannot be deleted if it is attached to a product
