Setting Up the Data Library
The Data Library helps you manage descriptive data and translations for your Digital Product Passports (DPP). It includes two types of data groups:
- Strict Allowed: Users cannot edit existing data, except for translations.
- Partially Allowed: Users can update and add data points but but cannot remove data points added by the system (GS).
This guide will help you set up and manage data for these two groups and understand the relationship between data groups and widgets.
1. Accessing the Data Library
To begin, navigate to the Data Library section within your platform’s admin interface. You will find data categorized based on its permission type.
2. Understanding the Data Groups
The Data Library is divided into two main groups, each with distinct editing rules:
2.1 Strict Allowed Data Group
In the Strict Allowed group:
- Existing data cannot be changed: You cannot edit the original descriptive data points.
- Only translations can be added: Translations for existing data points in different languages can be added.
Steps for working in the Strict Allowed group:
- View Data Points: Review existing descriptive texts. You will not be able to modify these texts; however, you can add translations.
- Add Translations: You can add translations for the text fields as needed.
- Save Translations: Ensure you save translations for each required language.
2.2 Partially Allowed Data Group
The Partially Allowed group allows greater flexibility:
- Add new data points: You can create new data points that were not part of the initial set.
- Update existing data points: You can update or modify the descriptions but but not delete system-generated (GS) data points.
- No deletion of GS-added data: You cannot remove system-generated descriptive data.
Steps for working in the Partially Allowed group:
- Update Existing Data: You can modify descriptive data where allowed. However, if the data point was added by the system (GS), it cannot be deleted or removed.
- Add New Data Points: If necessary, click Add New to introduce additional descriptive data that was previously missing.
- Save Changes: Always save any edits or new data you’ve entered.
3. Data Group Widget Relation
Each data point in the Data Library is linked to specific widgets based on identifiers. These connections can be viewed and identified when editing widgets, making it easier to understand how data groups are related to different widgets in your Digital Product Passports.
Identifying Data Group Widget Relation:
- Widget Editing: When you open a widget for editing, look for the section displaying the identifier.
- Matching Identifiers: The data group related to the widget can be identified by matching the widget’s identifier with the data group’s identifier.
- Available for Viewing: The identifier for each data group is visible within the widget editing screen. This allows you to quickly check the data linked to a widget.
By following the identifiers, you can establish which descriptive data points are used in the widget and ensure the correct data is displayed.
The Data Library provides you with an efficient way to manage and update descriptive data for your Digital Product Passports (DPP), allowing you to make key adjustments based on different data groups. If you run into any difficulties, refer to the Data Library section or reach out to support for further assistance.
